The beginning
I best start at the beginning so you might understand my title for this and where my viewpoint comes from. I grew-up in a small town in Iowa (actually we lived in the country outside of the small town); I went to church/Sunday School/Catechism (Thursday night classes) all my growing up years; I joined the Church when I was 16; when I graduated high school we moved to, well what I call a city, but it’s not a big city as New York City or Chicago just Des Moines, IA - still went to church and Sunday School; took over organizing the Church’s library and ran into some “mean” people who thought only certain publishers or authors should be in a church library – God forbid we’d have The Bridges of Madison County by: Robert James Waller in our FICTION section and so ended my time of going to Church. I just didn’t trust them anymore; if you could get upset over a book and tell me “That author is no good” I didn’t want to have anything to do with CHURCH. So I left and didn’t return until, well I needed a job and was offered one through my Mother’s church, about 12 year later. All I could think was me, the woman who cusses more than a sailor (my Mom’s words not mine), the one who says Sunday’s are for sleeping in and why should I go to church. I believe and believed in God and that Jesus Christ died so I and you can have eternal life - - - but I saw no point in attending a weekly service, where does it say in the Bible “You must go one day a week to an organized time of worship, with other people, in a building, with music and a man/woman telling how it is”. So that is the background of this Simpleton, I work at a church, I’m almost 40 years old, attend church – not every Sunday and no WAY am I going to summer services, they start at 9:30AM I’m barely climbing out of bed then (are they crazy!), I’ve studied the Bible but I cannot say I know it, I cannot even tell you where some of the books of the Bible are located (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John – that’s as far as I go). I believe and love God but I couldn’t tell you were to locate the Good Samaritan story or for that matter where the story of Jesus’ birth is….somewhere in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, right?!?! So I’m a “Simpleton” someone who does NOT use big words, who says it like she sees it, and is willing to listen but don’t get upset if I don’t change my mind---I’m a little stubborn at times. So here we go…………………….
